West Midlands Heat Sources Map This web application has been realised in the context of the "WHARM" (Waste Heat Assesment and Resource Mapping) research project on identifying heat sources in West Midlands Conurbation. The project is lead by LSBU, and supported by Aston University, Birmingham City Council, and the companies Start Refrigeration for industrial support and Skilled Mapping for technical support in particular in developing this web app.

Key Hypothesis

Share of heat reused (%): Defines how much of the available waste heat is delivered to the network annually. Impacts OPEX and levelised costs calculations.

DH Network Typology: Defines the supply temperatures of the heat network the source is connected to. This changes sink temperature assumptions (80°C for 3G, 65°C for 4G and 25°C for 5G) used in efficiency/COP calculations, thus impacting electricity costs.

Discount factor (%): Defines discount factor assumed for all calculations of annualised CAPEX.

Life time of equipment (years): Defines the assumptions of equipment lifetime for all considered elements (heat recovery and upgrade). This impacts the estimates of annualised CAPEX.
